This month we mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11. In the tragic events of that darkest day, Manheim Township lost one of our own, Jean Hoadley Peterson ‘64, who, alongside her husband Don, was a passenger on Flight 93. Jean was a mother of three daughters, registered nurse, nurse educator, and community and church volunteer.
Determined to Never Forget their friend or the events of 9/11, members of the MTHS Class of 1964 established the Jean Hoadley Peterson Memorial Fund with Manheim Township Educational Foundation in 2002. In observance of the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Jean’s classmate, Joe Moore, has pledged to match new donations made to this fund by December 15, 2026, up to $25,000.
Together we can ensure that Jean’s memory lives on at Manheim Township and in the students who are positively impacted by the fund’s grant projects. The Jean Hoadley Peterson Memorial Fund supports career exploration in the health sciences, community engagement and volunteerism, health and wellness programs, and initiatives that build awareness and understanding across communities through leadership development, mentorship, and guest speakers, including a presentation every four years to help high school students learn about the events of 9/11 that forever impacted our country.
We invite Manheim Township School District and our MT alumni communities to make contributions to this fund that keeps alive Jean’s legacy of caring and honors the memory of 9/11 heroes. Donations can be made online or by sending a check made out to MTEF with Jean Hoadley Peterson Memorial Fund noted in the memo to: MTEF, 450A Candlewyck Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.
