Manheim Township Names 2021 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipients

In May of 2021, the Manheim Township Alumni Association named the newest recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award. The 2021 award winners are Aaron M. Pallas, class of 1975; Suzanne E Landis MD, MPH, class of 1970; and Maribeth N. Bisienere, class of 1979.

Each year, the winners are invited to speak to the graduating class during commencement rehearsal. However, due to COVID restrictions, the committee and high school administration determined it would be best for the winners to submit a video message that could be shared with the students.

We hope that this year’s winners can join us next year for an in-person reception. If you would like to make a donation in honor of one of the candidates, please forward it to MTAA, 450A Candlewyck Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.

Manheim Township Names 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipients

On June 5, 2019, the Manheim Township Alumni Association presented the Distinguished Alumni Award to Dr. Michael Hagy, PhD class of 1967, Brooke Shaden, class of 2005, and Janet Zimmer, class of 1967.

The award winners addressed the 2019 graduating class during commencement rehearsal.  Michael Hagy spoke about types of motivation and said he recognized that the current generation is pro-socially motivated in that they care about the environment and the community.  He also shared a bit of a history lesson with the class and quoted Winston Churchill by stating, "Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."  Brooke Shaden was unable to attend due to a previous commitment but she sent a video to share with the class.  In the video, she encouraged the class to pursue their passions, follow their curiosity and share their greatest self with others.  Brooke's mother, Diane Mastromattaeo, accepted the award on her behalf.  Janet Zimmer shared that she felt very prepared for college and her career after graduating from Manheim Township.  She encouraged the graduates to follow their dreams, to dream big, to believe in themselves and expect to succeed at their endeavors.  Janet also said that sometimes your passion can be found through volunteer jobs and community service.

Following the presentation, a reception was held to honor the selected alumni.  The Alumni Association would like to thank Calvary Church for hosting this event and the following companies for sponsoring this year's award presentation - Bath Fitter, Kitchen Saver, and Homespire Windows LLC.  If you would like to make a donation in honor of one of the candidates, please forward it to MTAA, 450A Candlewyck Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.
